Many.
Burning fossil fuels for one; this releases dangerous gasses such as CO2 that contribute to climate change.
Deforestation, both to produce lumber and 'slash and burn farming' clears habitat that is nearly impossible to replace, and reduces our planet's ability to convert CO2 back into oxygen.
Overfishing - commercial fishing has depleted many of the world's natural fisheries; this trend shows no signs of changing.
Farming - sometimes destroys natural habitats; also can introduce foreign plant species.
'Reclaiming' wetlands for development - turning swamps into solid land to build that new subdivision - sure it provides cheap land, but removes large sections of habitat, and takes away the environment's ability to 'filter' surface water.
I could continue, but I'll stop now.

one of my favorite scientists, Elizabeth Kolbert, just so happens to be the best on this particular subject her article is huge so I will just give you the site
http://www.wesjones.com/climate1.htm

http://www.spacedaily.com/news/oceans-05i.html our oceans take a beating too this is a more easier to follow article to read on this subject.
Ken Caldeira is another scientist I like on this subject

with all of this said, some of the things that we can do as individuals is try to minimize: our travels, air conditioners (and in our cars), keep refrigerators/freezers closed and also instead of getting aerosols such as hairspray, Lysol etc. try and get sprays using the pumps. when fertilizing lawns try to find a natural alternative, or keep the fertilizer at least away from water routs such as lakes, runoffs, and sewage drains. try and convert to solar power. I believe it is GE who came our with those weird shaped light bulbs that conserve energy, they work because I have a bigger house (because of a big family) by converting to those bulbs alone our bill dropped significantly. in my room I use 13 or 18 watts of energy and it is brighter than a 40-60 watt bulb. give it a shot
