I agree with you, it is purely religious. Unfortunately, they have a right-leaning judicial branch now that interprets constitutional law the way the rightys want it. This is discrimination one way or another and I think the government should get the hell out of peoples lives...that's what conservatives are supposed to be for. Are they really conservatives or just bible thumpers?

Romney said he was going to leave his religion at the door and I believe him. I would not vote for him however!
Politicians should be representing their constituents, not corporations, not oil and certainly not religion.
Many people believe that the separation of state and religion was to protect those who were religious! After a good dose of the Catholic Church and then the Church of England that Queen Elizabeth was almost beheaded because she was a Protestant. She then threw the Catholics out of power!
It is to protect government from religion, not the other way around! I don't want the Pope or the head of the Mormon church anywhere near US policy!
The Vatican is a religious state, not the US!
I think recognizing marriages of gays has more to do with money than anything else! I am sure there are plenty of homophobes though, and you don't have to belong to a church to be one!

I take a passage from the good book. Not the bible but the dictionary. Marriage is a legal and religious union between a MAN and a WOMAN. Also for your education there is no separation of church and state in the constitution! How can a people expect someone to rule without a moral foundation. Where does that moral foundation come from? Religion naturally. Of course not everyone worships the same and not everyone is tolerant of other views. It is not a question of church and state but how someone practices their religion.

That is an interesting take on the subject.
Although I think you are correct in assuming that the reason gay marriage is currently banned is in large part due to religious belief, as long as it is being voted on by the people, or by representatives of the people, it becomes a matter of law and majority vote making it no longer matter that the original objection was raised by the church.
If the majority wanted gay marriage, it wouldn't matter what the Christians thought about it, but the Christians are the majority in this country, so they win.

What separation of church and state ?
There is nothing in the Constitution about a separation of church and state.
The citizens of every State in the Union, voted to make gay marriage illegal.
The courts have over turned some of those laws., But the citizens haven't.
People try and make it a conservative issue, but when was MASS, NH, Maryland etc ever conservative?
So it must have been the liberals who control the state legislatures in those states, who passed the laws making gay marriage illegal.

If marriage is religious then the church has the right to in force its beliefs.
If marriage is just a legality then anybody can be married.
I think the problem lies with gays wanting to impose their sexuality on everybody and they want the same feeling that the church gives to there followers when heterosexuals get married.Well i think they don't belong their. I think gays have all the rights of citizenry but not of the church. They should not be persecuted either, because weather we like it or not it is nature all.It has always been a part of mans nature.

I agree with you when you say politicians vote against gay marriage because of their religious backgrounds.
I think it is a violation and would like to see more politicians voting despite their religious beliefs rather than voting because of those convictions.

hate to say it, but that's the way things work. A lot of people vote based on those specific topics. Mostly gay marriage and abortion. It doesn't matter what their other policies are. It's sad really.

Well-with that view the state should not be marrying anyone either. Marriage is a covenant between a man, a woman, and God. The state should have nothing to do with it.

homosexuality is a mental illness caused by abuse that perpetrated against them when their sexual identity is in the formative stage. to base marriages on this is scientifically absurd. to allow children into these homes is criminal. it has noothing to do with religion. marriage is a common law principal that preexists the usa. to change the meaning of the word for political reason is contrary to principals of law. not religion. the general cause for marriage is procreation. homos can't. there's no reason to change a law to allow a certain perversation of normal sex to gain special legal priviledges.
