If you had your choice of selecting an actor to star as superman in the first movie, who would you have selected and why?

Christopher Reeve, an unknown out-from-nowhere actor, really nailed the role pretty much to where any choices were cast aside fast.
Bear in mind...this was what....nearly 30 or so years ago....so if I had a favorite to play The Man Of Steel.....I can't, TODAY, recall who that'd be.
I did have a problem w/ Margot Kidder being Lois.....always thought Linda Blair could've pegged that role out.

Well, when it comes to "staring", no one can beat Anthony Hopkins...remember him as Hannibal Lector in "Silence of the Lambs"? However, as masterful as Hopkins was at staring, I don't think he would have made a good "Superman"---just didn't have what was needed to fill out that costume.
Pee Wee Herman...now there was a Man of Steel, right??
