ABC News' Raelyn Johnson Reports: With a dash for cash as the second quarter fundraising deadline closes in this Saturday, personal political attacks may be turning into a fundraising opportunity for the Edwards campaign.
Following the war of words between Elizabeth Edwards and political pundit and author Ann Coulter Tuesday night on MSNBC's "Hardball", the Edwards campaign is turning the controversy into an opportunity to fill their campaign coffers.
In an appearance on Monday's ABC's "Good Morning America," Ann Coulter said, "Oh yeah, I wouldn't insult gays by comparing them to John Edwards. That would be mean, but about the same time -- you know -- Bill Maher was not joking and saying he wished [Vice President] Dick Cheney had been killed in a terrorist attack. So I've learned my lesson. If I'm going to say anything about John Edwards in the future, I'll just wish he has been killed in a terrorist assassination plot."
"This is just a taste of the filth that the right-wing machine is gearing up to throw at us. And now that it's begun, we have a choice: Do we sit back, or do we fight back? I say we fight. Help us raise $100,000 in "Coulter Cash", wrote David Bonior, Edwards campaign manager, in an email to supporters.
The campaign also tried to turn controversy into cash last week after The New York Times ran a story about him using his poverty center for political publicity.

You know what, to me it looks exactly like how an ambulance chaser would run his campaign. They're trying to make money off of this incident by saying more or less if you give money, we'll save the USA from this horrible "Ann Coulter style politics".
Coulter isn't running. She isn't even a politician. They have her quote about an assassination plot on their website, yet what she was responding to, Bill Maher saying he wished Cheney was a victim of a terrorist plot, is taken out of context. And that comment by Maher never got much play in the media. The Edwards didnt' try to 'save' anyone from that kind of politics, wanting our standing VP to be killed by terrorists. Cheesy and hypocritical.
Ms. Edwards has also talked about other people's children, Cheney's daughter, in a negative way as well. So, it all just looks pretty cheesy and immature to me. I don't want this kind of leader and I see why he's lagging in the polls.

This kind of crap doesn't help bring us together as one nation - under God, or otherwise. I think what Bill Maher said was wrong and I think what Ann Coulter says is wrong.
As for Edwards using it to collect campaign contributions, that's no different than Ann Coulter using her outrageous comments to sell more of her books.
Still, I say again that they are both doing our country a disservice by bickering like rotten children and not discussing issues that are important to all of us.
Look at this Amnesty Bill in Congress. There is a sincere effort by MANY Republicans and Democrats to push it through in spite of the fact that MANY Americans - left and right alike - do NOT support it.
Yet Ann Coulter wants to squabble like a child and pick on John Edwards and instead of taking the high road, he does the same thing. Meanwhile our immigration problem isn't getting solved and isn't getting the attention it needs.
RIDICULOUS!

I heard the tape of Coulter and Elizabeth Edwards talking.
Ann was pretty over the top and out there you have to admit.
I dont support Edwards, and his campaign sadly is a sympathy campaign it seems.
Ann is right about alot of things but she has been a bit of a say things for their shock value kinda person alot lately from what I have seen. And it can get unsavory.

Exactly how would edwards "fight back" Either they are going to throw equal amounts of trash at Ann Coulter, or , as I suspect, They will "Sit back" and collect the cash. It seems Elizabeth Edwards isnt too concerned about the speech coming from Ann, as long as they get paid...

People like Anne Coulter are the best thing Democrats have going for them. Every-time Anne opens her mouth Democrats start going up in the polls and receive more campaign contributions. Please, raise money to keep Anne opening her big mouth.
Democrats have a lot of small contributors, while the Republicans have a few big ones. The advantage is to the Democrats, because more people have a sense of ownership in their campaigns.

I absolutely applaud Elizabeth Edwards. Everyone who stands up to Ann Coulter and tells her to shut the hell up is good in my books.

Coulter making fun of John Edwards son that passed away was the lowest blow imaginable to a mother that lost her child.

Some of you liberals posting comments, where do you get this cutesy-touchy-fuzzy-teddybear feeling about the democratic party. "Ohhhh, they care about the people."
Ann Coulter, Larry Kudlow and Investors Business Daily are solidifying my position on the free capitalism, free speech for all (not just the liberals), anti-socialism side.
Liberals, do you even believe in FREEDOM or you just want to restrict it for the unholy ones, i.e. non-liberals?

It seems you are trying to defend the foul minded media whore Ann Coulter. Face it, she has nothing to offer to the Repubs other than being their attack dog and in return she gets the media attention for her ugly words and ideas that help promote her book being released in paperback.

The whole Democratic Party is extremely grateful to Coulter. It is ignorant hate filled rhetoric like hers that demonstrates the nasty nature of the right and drives moderates to the left.
Thank you and God bless Ann. Keep it up!
