like looking at a tree from the out side there is no way to know the age with out looking in. A tree that grows at sea level may be huge where as one the grows in sub alpine may be the smaller of the two but be older.

I think if you get to a state that you are able to pray for the answer to this question, you may receive it for yourself. Spirituality is an intimate awareness between you and God.

I believe that it is something of faith that you can trust you are progressing, even when things are stagnant or dull.

If your heart is focused on growth you have the key to growth.....there are universal spiritual truths that ensure spiritual health....

some that I think of fondly are:

ask and you will receive

you will be judged as you judge others

or put in less biblical terms:

it is all available now...be open to it.

and be pure because Karma can be sweet as honey or bite like a b***h.

you asked......you already know...no one is going to tell you how far you've come....I could guess, but
even if I tried to, all I could base it on would be your 'fruits'

how you treat others, what you do with the time you have on earth, in other words...how loving are you?

only God really knows our depths our hearts our inner world and those who know Truth....should be able to discern, if you are of like mind/soul.

funny thing....spiritual awareness beams like a torch in the night... to those who 'know'

and as soon as a person 'knows' for the first time.....they hardly could go back to the previous state....cause all of a sudden the universe is wide open.

cheers, good question.

are you asking about your own?
I hope so. We are all here and we all have a right to be here....and like your trees, who is to say that one that dies young was not in good standing spiritually....just because you may be older means very little, maybe you are older cause you are thick and need more time?...I think there is no clear measure

You can compare your ability to release yourself from expectations of others now, as compared to say, 5 years ago. You can also think about what you expect from others now, as compared to a time in the past. You can try to measure the amount of peace in your life from practising this sort of attitude. You'll have a lot more of it if you honor the barriers that you put up about what is your business, and what is not. That's a good indicator of spiritual progress.

I don't " measure " anything in regards to gaging " how much " spiritual growth. I simply just let it Be. I know what I'm sensing within spiritually...no need or desire to " measure " any levels.

My gosh . . . Is there getting to be a sense of " competition " or wonder of " how much " even outside the religious realm ? ! !

Excuse me for saying this...but I find this question just sad.

As you infer, that is not so easy to measure.

Growth is the rate of change. If the quality of your life is improving, then I think it is safe to assume that some spiritual growth is taking place as well.

I do yoga and notice small changes over time. Before that, I don't recall experiencing any noticeable personal growth.

Spirituality is such a loaded term. Perhaps you could count the spiritual aides you keep. If you weighed your crystals or crucifixes would they weigh more than your head? Or maybe you could count the number of times you've read the bible or gone to confession, or how many black masses you've attended or how many love spells you've tried to cast or may poles you've danced or drum circles you've attended.

I think that you will know its big enough when you stop trying to measure it.

One's spirituality comes from within and is constant...
If one is constantly treating others with great respect and dignity at all times, then you know, he/she has growth spritually.

i don't have any experience in this area, but you might try keeping a prayer journal. write in it for a month. then at the end of the month, read it. see how much you prayed for the good of others at he beginning of the month and at he end. compare them. also try to remember J.O.Y. Jesus comes first in your life. When praying, thank Him for everything that he has ever given you. Others come next. when praying, after praising God for everything, pray for the good of others. then You come last. pray for yourself last. same order when your doing things. Serve God first. serve others second. serve yourself last.

It is something that you try to obtain in your lifetime..growth. You have already shown this growth by asking the question.

Spirituality does not grow,it is not a material part of a person. You either believe in it or you don't.
