This is a really good question. To form this response, it was necessary for me to review how my priorities have changed. My maturation is the result of education, experience, and successfully attaining my personal goals. Honesty was the priority when doing an introspective evaluation of the methods I used for satisfying the goals that have resulted in feeling good about myself. I became aware of how strong an influence my mother has been on the construction of my value system. Her response to my disclosures of difficulties, frustrations, and the sometimes lagging self confidence was always, "so be it". This was her way of saying that history cannot be changed. There was an understanding by me that she would let me find my solution to my challenges. It was my understanding that she expected me to use integrity, and to not compromise my self respect as I fumbled and stumbled through each learning experience. There were times when I make compromises to achieve my goals. I'm not proud of that, but, so be it.
