I have a 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4.0 Litre. Recently sweeping out my Jeep I took out the rear, passenger floor mat and there was a brown/orange stain under the mat, and the mat itself also has a semi-permanent stain imprint on the back of the floor mat.

I suspect that the A/C piping has a leak or is congested and is leaking water underneath the carpeting.

Does anyone know if this could happen, and if so how do I fix it?

Any suggestions?

Try and unplug the condensate drain tube. Look for it underneath the Jeep. Run something up through the line and try to clear the plug. Turn the AC on and see if you can get a flow through the tube.

If it's plain water then possibly it's the evaporator drain tube thats plugged,it's located on the firewall on the passengers side under the hood.It seems highly unlikely that it is your problem though,it would make sense if it was the front pass side carpet but not the rear carpet,if your vehicle had rear A/C the pipes run underneath the vehicle.

there's a drain plug near the firewalll at the bottom of the heater box it has a rubber hose that goes through the firewal and vents out to the outside and down,it that stops up it will do this, its not hard to find and it ma have also come unhooked, that happens sometimes also, but that's the usual cause for one doing that,my tuck has already been through it this year, from being parked under a tree, but that's what you need to look for ,it wont be a very large hose, maybe a 3/8 in size or bigger but it serves a very good cause, hope you find it man, that's a mess to clean up when they do that, good luck with it.
