I already did a port and polish which doesn't make much of a difference. I tried not to over do it because I didn't want to ruin my engine. Is there anything else I can do to get a little more power out of it?

Going with a higher compression piston helps. This is where the main performance gain happens. You can also locate a bigger carburetor for it, will require a change in the manifold. I have seen some people file the orifice of the carbs to open them up and increase the CFM of the carb.

general maintenance, new plug, ensure the gapping is correct, air filter, use 87 octane fresh fuel, any fuel over 30 days old without stabilizer should be thrown out. Gas starts breaking down after 2 weeks. Find out how much ethanol is in the fuel where you purchase it. Anything over 10% is bad.
If you are using fuel over 30 days, get a carb cleaning kit. residue will result in a gummy form and not allow the full optimization of the product. You may also want to check out the needle and seat, gummy build up will result in this not working properly.

I agree with getting a new higher compression piston and put it in. either that or get a larger engine, like a 8 hp engine and go from there.

most of these run a governor, so just bypass it, also mill the head or run it without a head gasket, just use a sealer.
