Much higher than 90%, if we include everyone who has ever lived.

That's beside the point though.
Scientifically, That 90% just find it incredibly hard to believe that the harmony with which the universe interacts with itself is far too complex to have happened by chance. Not to mention the fact that science still cannot tell us where all the matter that makes up the universe came from.

Philisophically, right and wrong can only be defined when something higher than man gives actions a label. For example, why is it wrong to kill someone? What is so special about a human life that makes us revere it so much?
Societies that have adhered the philosophy that "man is the measure of all things" have inevitably crumbled.

I think many believe in a "higher force" because they are afraid that if they didn't that the force would kick their butt.

We are defined by a lot more then beliefs in God. History defines us just as we define things that happened in our past. Like the "Hero's "of D-Day and the "Beginning of the End" of the Roman Empire. Who decides who the Hero's are? Did they know that it was about to end? History leads to many of the ideas and beliefs that we are not even aware we have. God or "the higher power" is a belief. One that makes use feel good to know that there is something that we do not yet understand and level of being that is beyond your current level of existence. I really don't see a problem with that.

I don't know how anyone else feels, I only speak for myself. I know that if there were no Creator, which is what I call my spiritual leader, I would have died from lack long ago.
You don't know me, but I have overcome dysfunction, complete deprivation of human affection and love through my entire youth, abuse of all kinds, trauma of unparalleled levels, and yet I am still capable of love. Not just capable, but adept with it, and sharing and caring, and nurturing. I am a living example that this Creator, or higher force exists, and I share my message openly with all who are open and receptive.
It is a miracle that I am alive within myself, as many have gone through more, and many have gone through less...but I am alive, and loving, and learning more everyday that the light of my Creator, it is the way to live.
Blessings and love.

Belief in a higher force has many reasons, but some of them are simply that we are born, we live for a period of time, and we die. The cycle is your reality, but is it you? It certainly is not you. Your being transcends all cycles. In fact, because you exist, the cycles are even something to think about, or doubts are entertained. You are the higher force.

We all came from a higher force, we came from a dying planet some place out there.

I think that our level of intelligence gives us the time and care for questioning such lofty ideas posed by philosiphers and religion.

Other animals think only of what is necessary for their survival; food, sleep, and a female. While our advances in technology and language allow us to think of the future and our purpose, as well as entertainment, which are not necessary to survival, but allow our over-thinking selves to find life to be more important and purposed than any animal or protozoa could possibly conceive.

While others live to survive, we are no longer concerned with every-day survival, and need something more to suppliment that empty time.

I believe it is merely something to help people out and deal with life's troubles...an "imaginary friend" if you will that can give people someone to talk to and to pretend someone is listening to you. I don't agree with most religions...(before I get a bunch of thumbs down...remember everyone is entitled to their own opinion here)...but I do believe it is helpful in that respect...bringing closure to most things and making death not seem so unbearable. It gives hope to people, and I guess most people need that to go on with their daily lives, to have a meaning and a goal at the end when you die, otherwise you would realize it's just pointless. :)

I feel like a peon in a bad novel some days...I do believe there is a greater power at work....I would like to believe love will win ...that harmony and all that that one books promises...that the meek shall inherit the world and sickness and that shall pass, I'd not bet against....for a book to be written that long ago and most of what is said in it to be accurate

There is so much splendor and so many things that happen which are just so clear that there is a much bigger power and consciousness then our little human race. The intrigue leads us to ponder the unknown, to the ends of the earth and out to the dimmest of stars, only to find the need to trust in this unknown.

Because we are part of that Higher Force, we are all ONE and we need to return to that ONE which is GOD/Higher Force
