To me, jazz is an art form, a true art form. It's practicly all I ever really listen to. When I was a young man, I was given a collection of albums from a man who loved the music, my mom was a listener of big band jazz as well. We had a very good sterio system for those days.
I would listen to several albums stacked on on top of another while I went to sleep. I was about 7 at the time and preferred that music over the "popular music" of the day.
When my mom heard what I was listening to and saw that I was really was really immersed in it, she started looking for something for me to do that would involve me in music.
A friend of hers was starting a drum and bugle corps and wanted me to play bugle. To no surprise to them, I excelled at it and ended up teaching the other kids to play.
Later, that same year we were driving down an old road and the radio was playing, there we were, top down, sun shining, perfect day and this music was mesmerizing. A song came on called "Sugar Blues" I listened intently as my mom did as well. I then told her that I wished that I could play horn like that.
This was a Sunday, when I came home from school that Monday afternoon, there was a new Olds Ambassador trumpet and a case there waiting for me.
I started playing immidiately and never stopped. I still played in the drum corps until I went in the Air Force, but even then, I continued in the drum corps during basic training. Am I passionate? ABSOLUTELY! I love the music and to this day I listen to various tunes to relax.

That's a tough question. I believe people that are PASSIONATE about Jazz, live it. When i say this, they are an active participant in it. I can listen to jazz, but, i love singing it. A real "jazzer" to me is someone that not only listens but can really get into it because of their musicianship. I've heard many jazz bands and some are just bad because they don't feel it, they just play notes. Jazz is notes, but its also about emotions and the ability to play "on the fly".

Of all the art forms, and especially music, jazz has the least amount of interference from the truth. Just like a good joke, music has to be truthful to be powerful.
When you hear jazz played honestly, you are HEARING the truth being represented through sound. It is more powerful than words, beyond words.
For example, listen to the song Ghetto Lights, on the Bobby Hutcherson album, Dialogue. Is that song not beyond our normal vocabulary?

I was raised off of jazz and I'm 17. I'm like the only 17 year old who loves it. My dad is a Jazz agent.
I love the mellow jazz that kinda makes me feel like i'm looking at the sky on a roof in the city.

I feel so special, unique!
When I am listening to latino jazz I feel very elegant, especially in club you know. Somehow, when you play the jazz music in a club people automatically start behaving nice, cool, elegant, I don't know how!

I find jazz the most fun to play on the drums. You can just go all out as long as it fits in with the main theme.
That's why I love it.
