if possible the most frightening thing that happened to you or someone realy close to you, but if you can't think of one then something more public is fine.
The most frightening thing that i can think of is when I was out at a lake with my mentally challenged cousin and a friend.
i was on my way to swim out to a little island, but my cousin followed me and went in ahead of me.
i knew he wouldn't be able to make it so i went after him.
he swam as far and fast as he could so he burnt out a good way out in the water.
i called him back but he was tired so i was dragging him back but he panicked and was climbing all over me and squezing my neck.
he's easily more than twice my size
in short
my cousin was going to drown and there was nothing i could do. He would die and I would have to watch.
waving to boats for help didn't work... they just waved back...
he jumped off me onto my friend.
that was memorial day and we almost died same as Steve Irwin did
i could say more but 0 left

In 1971 I was in Vietnam in a Jeep with four other Air Force members, with a sergeant driving. (I was a captain at that time, and had relinquished my car keys because I had undergone dental work and didn't want to drive in a combat zone after having had a local anesthetic.)

As we drove through a village between Cam Ranh Bay and Nha Trang we stumbled into a house-to-house search by ARVN forces that turned into a fire fight. We learned of this when we heard a long burst of automatic weapons fire. (That sounds like NOTHING else.)

We were not adequately armed for such action, carrying only the weapons needed to defend ourselves, and lacking body armor and helmets, so we got out of there fast.

However the sergeant who was driving was accelerating the Jeep while looking behind him. We were on a two-lane highway with other traffic, including gravel trucks, and I was terrified we were going to collide head-on with one. I was yelling at the sergeant "watch the road, dammit!!" and watching the oncoming traffic.

Fortunately he came back to the real world and we had a safe and uneventful trip the rest of the way.

I was truly far more afraid of having a bad traffic accident than getting dinged by the V.C.

wow, scary. The most frightening thing that ever happened to me was a nightmare. The most frightening real life thing was getting slammed by a wave and almost drowning in the ocean. Also getting mugged with a gun. also going off the road in my car. Also earthquakes.

Something most people don't remember... when a child is born there is a loud cry. The language is not there yet, but it must be something like what you describe, maybe even worse.

The feeling that I might be found out for something I did that was horrible and I regret it to this day.

In my case it was having my drunk neighbor shooting his pistol at me and missing my head by 2 inches!
