Dear Oily-
There is much BS when it comes to the discussion of the best oil vs. the worst oil.
Bottom line is what oil you choose and how often you CHANGE IT!
If you want to believe the Amsoil Myth that you need to change your oil every 10,000 miles, then I would like to be the first in line to sell you some land in Florida, say in the swamp!
The real question is Synthetic Vs. Natural Vs. Blends.
Change your oil every 3000 miles or 90 days which-ever occurs first. Period.
OK, now lets start this discussion. The oil in your engine performs several functions, cleaning, cooling. lubricating, protecting, and flushing. All of these are important.
As Amsoil states, the oil does not break down or wear out. This is true. However, the additive packages that are in the oil to improve its lubricating properties does. This is true with all oils. Oils will lubricate until you have stored enough heat to gas them and ignite them.
As for one brand of oil being better than another brand, well I would say "maybe".
My personal favorite that I have had much success with has been Mobil 1. I have also used Castrol, Chevron, Quaker State, Kendall and Valvoline. They are all good oils.
But here is the real secret to oil.
Regardless of the brand you pick, you need to stay with that same brand for the time you own your car. This does not mean that you can't top off with another brand if your car needs it, and the filling station you are at does not have it.
Constantly chaging brands of oil to suit what is on sale at the time is a very good way to create engine sludge build-up. The additive packages are different for every manufacturer, as is the base stock they use to formulate their oil. Sometimes the additive packages that are in them are not compatible and create chemical reactions while in your car. This is the cause for the sludge build-up.
My father is a Pennsoil fan, he uses it in all of his cars. My brother uses Castrol, Grandpa uses Quaker State. My point is regardless of the brand stick with whatever you choose to use.
As for the Amsoil well, you are on your own there. Personally, any company that sells a complete filtering system with for their oil, then only warrants their claims after you purchase their filtering system, pretty much sounds like a scam to me.
But that is just my opinion.
The advantage with synthetic oils is the fact that you can go longer intervals before your oil really needs to be changed. But I would not take it too much beyond the 5000 mile mark in that case.
Just remember to check you oil when you fill up with fuel. The burn interval for that is this:
1 quart per 75 gallons of fuel. So on your 7th or 8th fill up it would be a good idea to check your oil level in the crank case. Just for the record, that is considered "normal" oil consumption to most auto-manufacturers.
My rule of thumb, is about one quart between oil changes. If you are doing that you are all good.

Use Amsoil they have been producing synthetic oil for about 40yrs or more, they also make very good oil filters, you can easyly go for 20k on one oil change,I use synthetic myself in a Mercedes turbo diesel.
Just so that you know synthetic oil has been around since 1938 invented by the Germans for their ME 262 Jet

About any true synthetic is going to be a good oil. The purple stuff is a very high performance oil. It's not really worth the price for an average vehicle. Lot's of other good advice has already been given.

I heard good things about Amsoil. But it all depends on what the manufacture of your vehicle suggests.

Amosil is hands down the best oil you can buy. They make the best filters, and isn't it great to do yearly/ 20,000 mile oil change intervals? Their Transmission and gear oils are top notch as well.

Lucas oil is a great product for those who are already experiencing a problem, as in blowby, noisy lifters, or consumption, but for the most part, using a good oil will keep you from ever having to use Lucas.

I'd go with lucas but to be totally honest, any name brand synthetic is a good choice. Stick with a brand that you can easily obtain on a regular basis. Also, match the viscosity to the engine and climate. And lastly, don't go longer on oil changes because you are using a synthetic.

Well if your really hard on your vehicle and its a v8 or higher go with Royal Purple. It worth it cause you don't have to change your oil for about 7k. Just the filter every 3k. But if your looking for a cheap but great oil go with Mobile one full syn. It works well. Me myself I use Royal Purple

Go with MOBIL ONE and don't bother with the rest of the brands. Its simply the very best you can buy and its readily available coast to coast.
