Here is a far better free antivirus program.

Here is an excellent free antivirus program from AOL, Active Virus Shield powered by Kaspersky Lab of Russia. Rated # 1 in the world for virus detection. You will get auto updates every hour on the hour, plus an excellent background scanner that really works great. AOL, will only ask you for your email so they can send you a free key good for one year. After one year just request a new key.

Decent at best, considering it is free. The reason is that Since it is free, they don't have enough income to provide for someone to constantly research new threats, whereas if you pay $40 for a GOOD antivirus, that money goes towards paying the researchers to actively seek new threats.

BTW, use of an ANTIVIRUS alone is NOT ENOUGH, you need an ANTISPYWARE program.

Trend Micro Antivirus and Spyware Doctor FTW!

I see the AVG fanboys and cheerleaders are out in full force again here on Yahoo Answers!

AVG Free is crap!

Mostly noobs, the naive, the computer illiterate, and children use AVG Free. These types love AVG because they say it is easy to use and almost never bothers them with any pop-ups or warnings. Of course AVG Free never bothers them, it hardly ever finds any virus to warn them about!

In test,

after test,

after test,

after test,

etc. etc. etc, ad nauseam, AVG free fares poorly.

AVG has proven itself to be a miserable performer at best. Missing almost 20%, while trying to detect known malware, in some tests. Not to mention almost non-existent heuristic detection and infrequent "once-a day" updates.

AVG. = Average, at best!

There are much better free alternatives such as Avria Anti-Vir:

and Active Virus Shield:

I have used McAfee and Norton. AVG has caught what those haven't, and it's free! Actually, I sent in my computer for repair and the guy told me that AVG is the best out there yet and then my son in law, computer genious said the same thing. I trust AVG, truthfully.

yes, its decent, considering its free.
But decent isn't good enough.
You'll need more protection than that.
For maximum security,
Firewall - ZoneAlarm Pro
Anti-Virus - McAfee VirusScan
Anti-Spyware - Spy Sweeper or Spybot Search and Destroy with Ad-Aware SE Personal (personally, i recommend spy sweeper)

Yes.
I've tried it many times and results were impressive.
But you would better to install SYmantec's Norton Antivirus.
Best regards.
