once you have entered the United States legally, you are free to go any where in the 48 connected states. If you want to go to Hawaii you would have to take a plain or boat and that would require you to show Identification. And If you want to go to Alaska, you either have to take a plane, boat or cross the border through Cananda which also requires you to show ID. We don't stop people on the street for no apparent reason to ask for Identification. Only at the borders. We also like Australians, come visit any time you want.

After you have entered the United States legally, you are "free" or allowed to go anywhere within the country. You have to pay to do the travelling but are allowed to go anywhere, between the states.

Not true, if you mean without charge. They'd have to buy tickets on whatever means of transportation they chose, or rent a car and pay the rental.

If you mean free of travel restrictions, then yes they can.

We do have some toll roads and toll bridges.
Some people do hitch-hike around but I wouldn't advise doing it. There are a small number of weirdos roaming the highways that don't spend all their time on Yahoo answers.
