It seems to me that you guys are in a bit of trouble some election time and your party to be showing the beginning signs of fraying-due to a pretty unpopular war. While I am no fan of Bush, I think that republicans should probably like him a bit less. It seems to me that anything short of total victory in Iraq spells trouble for you guys-just hope that Greenspan is getting too old to accurately read the economy. Given the political climate right now, a fairly large number of republican senate seats seem at risk while relatively few democratic seats. Both sides have weak candidates but with the political climate as it is the edge has to go to the democrats. I think it is entirely possible for the dems to pick up anoter 5-6 Senate seats and perhaps a few more house seats. I don't like one party controlling everything and am hopeful that you guys can figure out a way to keep some balance in the government. Love to hear opinions of others. Good luck in 2008.

The immigration debate is another that divides up republicans. Bush supports the plan and so each republican must now make a choice support the president or look to the constituents. As far as my analysis being wrong regarding the Senate seats, republicans have quite a few more at risk and let's face it now is not the greatest time to be a republican especially if your state happens to be a swinger. It looks to me that there are two chances for republicans to pick up Senate seats. Landrieu (Katrina-but do you guys really want to bring that up). And, Senator Johnson from South Dakota (It sounds like the guy is pretty popular there and running someone against a guy that is recovering from a stroke may not be construed well). Not going to go through all the shots that I think the dems have.

I really hate the short space that they give to respond to a person's response. So, I will do it here. The fact of the matter is that the reason the republicans are more at risk is that they have more seats to defend then the democrats and they are seen poorly right now. Think back to the election in RI; their prior senator was well liked; however, he was voted out simply because he was a republican. No one mobilizes a democrat faster than saying Bush is president and the republican congress gave Bush the ability to do anything he wanted. So, while not right, that seems to be the way of politics right now.

No one is trying to run off President Bush's record.
The taxes are down, the value of real estate is up, the economy is up, unemployment is down - I think the strength of our country speaks for itself. I am not a domes-day American.
I see what is right with this great nation.
I could not disagree more with the President over immigration but my candidates agree with my views not his.
It is the Democrats that agree with President Bush on giving away the country to a bunch of illegals.
I think you are being optimistic counting your wins, as there are plenty of Democrats opposed to allowing illegals more rights than legal immigrants & citizens.

So, I say bring it on. Iraq will not define all Republican canidates except to left wing liberals. They rest of us can judge individuals. What a novel idea - judging individuals not by party????

I think your analysis is wrong. Right now, the most important issue for conservatives is the immigration/shamnesty bill. All of the presidential wannabe's better be very careful which side they come down on. The republican base will not vote in someone who supports this crap. I am really close to becoming independent over this issue. The war in Iraq is a close second though. We want someone in there who will go in and kick as s and get it over with already. Winning is mandatory, not for political reasons but for security. What will happen if we leave and Iran starts playing their dangerous games with Iraq?

I agree, there seems to be no Republican canidate that could actually pull off a victory in 2008, but then agian, I dont like any Democratic Representitive either... When was the last time this country was ever excited about a president? Reagan maybe? I dont know...

It's called politics people do what they need to for votes look back at past elections with 2 term presidents people always bail for the votes cause they know the pres isn't going to be re-electected so it's every man for himself.
