Must I really travel to the 24th century to retrieve a new unit?

Not at all, dear fellow travelers!

You simply must find the divisional matrix "reset" button.

Some refer to this as the "anus" of the unit -- a bit vulgar but lets you find it easily -- give that a bang and you're OFF!

How far "off" is really up to you, isn't it...

No, you don't have to go that far.
There is a small flux-repair station on Sirius 6 that does good work (only 8 and a bit light years away).
Amwar is the owner, but get Rarset to do the work - he's better with flux units. But Amwar is a genius with pre-Concordiat trans-finite matrices and the old Gengorian hover-scooters if you have one of those.
They're a little pricey, but they guarantee their work for 5 centuries total travel "time".
