My friends son tried to get on here a while ago but was told he was too young to participate...He's 14 and his mother opened a yahoo! account for him because it wouldn't let him with out her consent...and now he can't get on Y!A!
Poor kid..Y!A! is the only reason he wanted yahoo! in the first place.

Well, he went through the questionaire when subscribing to yahoo! but when it came time to submit it a window opened up stating that parental consent was required to proceed...His mother then had to log on herself and aswer a few questions from yahoo! and presto..he had his account.

This is a made-up story! Checking into Answers / then deciding its an obvious advantage to join to either ask questions, answer them, in general helping others, albeit ur opinion may or may not be appreciated is a very simple process as described in the sign-up criteria!
If U can read, and some young children r very intelligent, what is the problem in signing up / joining?.
My own opinion of Answers is very simple! I recall my school days, when told to stand up / describe something / give an opinion or whatever (my school Friends include) our teachers on many occasions then ridiculed it / us in front of the whole class!
As young boys and girls we were mortified and thus somewhat preventive in our responses to others as we matured and grew into adulthood. In some cases children's characters being impeded for life!

No offense, but, I really think that while there is good info on YA, there is also a LOT of misinformation on YA.
I think that someone who is 14 might not really be helped by YA.
Also, I think when teens ask questions like "Wat wud U do if..." or "Wat do I do..." They get a lot of sarcastic answers from people, which ... is less than helpful.
Also, if you're 14... how much can you contribute? I know that's mean, but, you've probably never been in a real relationship, you don't drive, you'll end up asking people to do your homework for you ... (these are the most common question topics in my opinion)
**EDIT** Of course, this IS a generalization, perhaps your friend's kid is quite mature. However, did it occur to him to lie? I mean, I created an account when I was 12 (not this one, another) and totally said I was like 17.

Good question. I thought it was that anyone under the age of 13 had to have Parental Consent or something like that. But obviously not because he's 14 and Y!A won't let him on..

I'm not sure how old you have to be to participate but if y!a! isn't letting him on because of his age you can always lie about his age there shouldn't be nothing wrong with that ,there's really nothing bad on here not that I've notice from what I 've seen on y!a! you have to keep it clean so I don't know why it wont let him get account .I answer a question for a 12 year old girl so y!a! should let him on unless she lied about her age to get an account .hope you guys can figure it out so he wont be disappointed.Good Luck!

I got an account on here when I was 12 and there was no problem. And there shouldn't be. Yahoo! shouldn't generalize kids as fuckwits. Some of us are capable of forming an opinion.

Okay, that's weird because I've seen kids as young as 10 on here. I think that's too young, 13 is a good cutoff age.
