Possession of pornography is not a crime. I am not aware of any state that has penalties against minors in possession of pornography. Many stores have policies against selling pornography to minors, and some states may have laws against that. Production or distribution of child pornography is, in most states, a crime. It is also a federal offense to send child pornography through the US mail or through the internet (interstate commerce).

Funny thing--by far the largest producer and distributor of child pornography in the United States throughout the 1980s was the US Postal Service. Bigger than all other distributors combined.

Distribution of pornography to children could fall under state statutes against "contributing to the delinquency of a minor." I am not aware of any instances where such statutes have been enforced. But possession by a minor--can anyone cite some specific state statute?

In the USA you can get fined and even put on probation for it. However, I've never seen it actually happen. Usually the cops turn the porn and the kid over to the parents. The parents often deal out a punishment that is much worse than a small fine or probation.
