i'm full chinese and a native of sacramento. i'll have to say that sac's chinese food isn't as great as in other places such as sf...but if you really are looking for good chinese, i have to suggest the authentic ones: far east cafe and jade fountain (freeport boulevard), new canton (great dimsum too, on broadway), mayflower. fortune house is also very good, its also on broadway, i think its the cleanest and still authentic. these are all pretty typical authentic restaurants...price level is moderate. its the best because its authentic! lots of sauces, msg, grease, but very good still.

however if you're looking for cleaner restaurants that are more americanized, i'd suggest pf changs in downtown sacramento. its clean and the food is good, but its pricier.

hope this helps!

Best Chinese Restaurant In Sacramento

Sacramento is not known for quality dining and is certainly not known for authentic dining! Places like P.F. Changs and Frank Fat's are basically McDonald's in both taste and quality. These are NOT a real restaurants and are typically ran by uneducated, underpaid chain-managers. If you're not willing to drive to Chinatown in S.F., drive to Roseville and go to Nugget Market. It's a grocery store, however, their chinese food is the best thing you'll get outside Chinatown, S.F. (unless you go to another Nugget). If you don't care about authenticity and just want bland, candy-flavored suburban Chinese, go to any place with chopsticks; they're all the same.

There is a Chinese restaurant in downtown sacramento called Plum Blossom at 1830 J street. you can get a huge meal that tastes GREAT for under $10 per person. I love the orange chicken and egg flower soup. They also have the best pork buns i have ever tasted. They have other buns and stuff to go, too.Try it out. its really good.

Eastern Empire - good food and service, famous for their buffet that you order so everything is fresh and hot. Lots of seafood like shrimp and scallpos. cost is 14.94 per person and you need two or more to do this style of buffet.

Jade Fountain, Far East Cafe, Rice bowl (dim sum is good), Mayflower are also good. The first two are good authentic and cheap. the last two cost a bit more but they also have better service.

All these places serve authentic chinese food and not the stuff you find in supermarkets.
