From my experience in marching band in both high school and college, I love it. Freshman years both times, it was a great way to meet and get to know upperclassmen before entering school, I already had social contacts and people to consult when I needed help. Also, it's a lot of fun, especially college band. Band kids in college throw the best parties and we get to travel for a small pay (the athletic department gives each member a stipend when we travel).
Marching band is a lot harder than people think it is. Marching and playing at the same time uses up A LOT of energy, not to mention that we're often wearing 10 pound wool uniforms in 80 degree whether when we perform.

Marching band unfairly gets a bad rap. The work that goes into a halftime show or even a parade would surprise most people ...grueling work in the hot sun...or marching in freezing rain and snow in the winter. It builds character.
It also teaches discipline and helps build talent. Of course there are some dorks in band, but there are dorks in every organization in school...even on the football team. Don't blame the whole band on that.
I was in marching band when I was in High School and wasn't considered uncool. I had something to strive for and work at. I won awards in band competitions, and found talents I didn't know I had.

No, it's not stupid. I like to hear a good marching band. It's a musical form with an interesting history, and some of the band and drum corps competitions can be fun to attend.

When I was very young, and very stupid, I thought band members were dorks. Now I realize how talented they are,how important they are to the school spirit, how hard they work, how dedicated their parents and they are to raise the money for their uniforms, I have all the respect in the world for them. So my vote would vote NOT

I like the ones down south where they really rock out. But midwestern marching bands are kinda boring. If it makes you happy though, do it no matter what anyone else says.
