The pond is round about 2.5 ft deep. It is mostly in direct sun. It has a filter and pump that sprays like a fountian.

Try pool chemicals.

this is what I have done to my pond. I have a double filter system and a UV light that the water runs through before reaching the filter and water returning to the pond. If possible you might try putting up a picnic canopy over your pond, to much sun light helps the algae to grow. I have fish, snails, algae eaters and some plants in my pond. I do get a little bit of algae but it soon goes away and with all the critters I have in my pond the water is kept clean. A good filter system is a definite must have. I have my filter being one that sits outside the pond, it's a bio-filter. I have used many chemicals but they didn't do anything to help with the algae. I have found all that I have done has been by trial and error. Hope this helps.

To start the pond water treatment or cleaning, all the water in the pond should be removed. A solids handling pump attached to an extended hose can be of use. The water can be directed to anywhere you want it to go.
And it’s up to you if you prefer to clean your pond twice or thrice in a year. But to lessen the burden it gives, it is recommended to clean it and have a meticulous pond water treatment at least once a year.

if you have no plants or fish, use chlorine and algaecide.

if you have plants or fish, keep the filter clean, use a net to scoop debris off bottom, and ask your nearby pond store for a product that makes suspended debris fall to the bottom. (I forget the name of it)

To get rid of algae in a pond with fish, add floating plants. they will take the nutrients from the water and the algae will starve.
