I have a confusing question?

I was watching the episode of friends when they go to london and see duchess Fergie, does anyone know if they got a hold of her before they went there to film and asked her to be on the show or if they saw her while they were there filming and then asked her to be on the show?

I'm guessing it was planned by the writer(s) for the Duchess to be on the show - the director and/or producers probably called her agent and asked her. Since Friends was so popular back in the day, Fergie must have been honored and excited that they asked her to be on this particular episode.
