A third option... I work from home, so I have no co-workers to BS most of the time. Giving answers is high-quality procrastination time!

It's a kind of hobby. I like seeing what interests other people, what they are thinking about, how they think about things. Sometimes I feel like I have an answer that is helpful to someone and sometimes they have written and told me so. Some of the questions make me think things through, and give me practice in organizing and writing my thoughts. Sometimes, the things other people say are funny and give me a laugh. Usually I don't do more than two or three questions a day--sometimes more--sometimes I break for weeks at a time. The points are nice though,
although I have no idea what the point of them is, except to keep track of your own participation level.

Why do you answer these questions?

Maggie

It gives me a way to talk intelligently to the world. It also gives me a way to see what the world has to say and how others think. Sometimes I refer back to the answers I've read from people and use that knowledge during my day. I feel as if it helps me use the knowledge and opinions I have running around in my brain. It's a way to be myself and let it all out. Mostly...it makes me feel connected.

To connect with people of a like mind. Yes it's done in boredom but would it be more constructive to play with your self when bored?

This forum enables you to connect with people of the world, not just your local 7 11.

Both, and also on the off-chance I might help someone. But sometimes I just read answers rather than answering myself, coz it can be very interesting/informative.
