Especially in the category of dogs. I'm positive that anyone's kids do greater damage than my amicable, lazy german shepard, but we are perpetually discriminated upon by landlords whom set unrealistic and unbased restrictions against breeds and weights. These landlords and corporations are the scum of the earth and should weigh potential tenants on credit scores and references, not antiquated forms of discrimination. In this case, blatant pet biggotry.

Your only choice is to buy a house, then you will understand the reason why if you are paying for the damages. I am a landlord, but would consider a german shepard if renting a house, I just add an additional monthly fee for the dog, plus unfront charge for damages of $100. And I agree with you, kids cause damage, but so do dogs. LL cannot ban kids, but they can animals. In my case I look at each pet that the tenant has. Certain breeds of dogs are out of the question because my insurance company says they will not cover costs if they are owned by the tenant. Such dogs like pit bulls, Chows, etc. are banned due to their aggressive behavior. It is not that the landlord is biggot against animals, is that laws, insurance companies, and tenants who take advantage of situations have cause you this grief.

Hi,
You can buy your own house and let your pet destroy that instead! ; ) In the meantime stop your whining. I'm a Landlord, and we are not scum, but you should see some of the scum that rent from some of us Landlords. They'd make the hair on your dogs back curl! It's not discrimination to not rent to pet owners, it's good business. Some people have pet allergies, and all pets do some damage, so that's the reason we don't allow animals in our properties. You need to look at this from the land owners perspective, and realize that you don't own the property..... someone else does, and we make the rules so people like you don't ruin it for future renters. Sorry but the truth hurts sometimes.

There is absolutely nothing you can do. There are varied reasons for not allowing pets in rental units, from potential damage to the property, potential attacks on other residents and the resulting liability, and the presence of animal waste.

If you do not like these restrictions, purchase your own living facilities, where you can do as you choose.

As a hint, I am a landlord as well, and I don't allow dogs either. No matter what anyone says, they're bound to have an accident now and then on the carpet, and YOU aren't the guy who has to either replace the carpet and pad or find a way to eliminate the odor.

Buy a house. Dogs do a lot more damage than kids. Their smell, fur, feces, urine, fleas and worms can get into the carpets.
