LOL...I have thought that same thing several times!! They probably saw your avatar and thought, "hey this guy must be on the lookout for something. Let's give him an alert!"

It's because they are taking away 5 points from your total for asking the question. So they are alerting you of this.

somewhere in the world, there is an idiot who would attempt to sue(i don't think i spelled that right, o well) Yahoo Answers because they lost 5 points and didn't know they asked a question.

it alerts you to let you know that you have lose 5 points of asking a question so that you don't get confused how you points got shorten

maybe the alert should be before you ask the question. such as "alert, you will be losing 5 points"
