I heard today there is a portuguese's mafia here in Calif. Is this really true?

the portuguese mafia is all over the US. Cali, New York, Boston, Newark, and several others. Not only the US though, its also in S. America, several African countries, and even in eastern Asia

There are mafias everywhere and for every group.
They might seem similar to gangs but they are not. Rather than being "foot-soldier" type people like gangs, they are higher up in the criminal world.
They do a cleaner job, they're usually the drug lords rather than dealers, and they know how to keep from getting caught. They have people to do their work for them (hitmen etc...)

Probably. The only people that don't have a "mafia" (which is just a semi-glorified word for gang), are the Eskimos.
