I suggest cannery row in Monterey. This hotel is small and it has the feel of a B&B. You can easily stay here, eat and have fun for under $800.00. rooms include: Continental breakfast delivered to the rooms, afternoon wine and cheese reception and newspaper delivery. If you do stay here don't forget to check out the roof top. The rooms facing cannery row tend to be noisy, but it's fun to sit on the balcony, drinking wine and watching people.

I assume this is for 2 nights? You can easily do a weekend in Napa for under $800. Don't go farther upvalley to stay, it gets more expensive. Embassy Suites is nice and close to downtown and the outlet mall. Downtown you can get a tasting card from the Visitor's Center for $20 and entitles you to ten cent tastings at any of the downtown's tasting rooms which serve many different wines instead of just one brand. (Ok, they claim it's ten cents, but they usually waive that.) Great restaurants downtown too. And you can travel upvalley to wineries (tastings start at $6 or so), check out V Sattui winery, they have a deli in their winery and you can picnic on the grounds. You can stroll through downtown St. Helena and window shop.
From the hotel you can hop on the downtown trolley to see Napa. I think it's a dollar now. Two days in Napa under $800 can be done!
