Imagine your friend set you up on a blind date with a seemingly attractive person, but you soon discovered to your shock they were a Bible thumping , gay bashing , George Bush worshipping radical Republican. How long would it take for you to find the exit?

Sweetness, I'm 45, I'm going through menopause and I'm a left-wing Lesbian Pagan Lady who's estrogen is fluctuating. He'd better have either a great deal of chocolate or a gun because there's no way on God's green Earth he's getting one over on me. I'd sit down and talk politics with him until *he* gave up. (evil otter grin) -- oh and by the way --- I mean it.

By the way, Wisconsin is part of the US and I'm VERY fond of it. Amend your views.

I would turn silent, then hang my head in shame, start crying, tell him my granddad fought nazis during the war and how ashamed that I'm actually dating one, grab my purse and run out into the street hoping that I'd wind up in the path of a speeding cab.

Or on the other hand, I could tell him, as sweetly as can be that I am a pre-op transsexual woman, and compliment him on how happy I am to find someone as open minded and accepting as he is... then peer out the window while sipping some chardonnais to see if the cab nicks him instead.

as long as the person didnt get personal. But if he starts attacking reference groups of yours that you hold in high regard, for example he bashes gays and you have a lot of gay friends- then i would definitely start seeking for an exit.

I suppose I would be polite and listen to his rambling, nodding here and there, but of course I would never meet him again. We all know what Bush is, but if he invited me to dinner at the White House, I would go. It's fun to try to figure out what makes these guys tick.

If he trivialized he conversation with right-wing talk, I would go home.
If he respected the fact that I don't see things his way and focused on other things to talk about, I would probably stick it out for the night, but not make another date with him.

Everybody is entitled to their own opinion, however close minded biggotry is not acceptable. Excuse yourself as quick as possible to use the restroom, and duck out. How much of a chance did you give this person, or are you just asuming all of these things?

I may not even find the exit. I may crash through the wall in my attempt to escape, leaving a me-shaped hole in the wall, a la Bugs Bunny.

Did this happen to you? (Not the Bugs Bunny part, but the blind date part)

I would find the exit very fast. Then call my friend and have a discussion. Probably while they are laughing their butts off.

Excuse myself, hail a taxi and call my "friend " to tell her what a douche bag she was for pulling such a horrible prank.
