i decided after 3 yrs to get my tongue pierced.
I personally just wanted to see what it was like, and I found out. I DO NOT have any chipped teeth, after 4 yrs of having one, and I don't wear METAL balls in them, thats what chips your teeth.
when you first get it done they give you the smallest gauge, and longest bar, cause of the swelling that will happen. I suggest after a week, switching to a plastic ball, and 14gauge bar, thats 5/8th of inch long, you can talk more and no one will notice after a week. The piercer will tell you to wait 4 weeks, but I didn't, I had to go back to work. NOw, they have some stuff made by colgate, that has hydrogen perioxide in it, its a mouth wash called peroxyile or something like that. GET that and use it every chance you can, it reduces your risk of infection.
Your tongue heals up fast, so when you take out the first bar, get that second one in quick. I had mine out for one day and it started toclose up on me.
You also should get a 'clearish pink' color for a NOT noticable tongue ring. Its better around more conservative people.
My husband has his done, but can't wear it at work, and they also have retainers, which are almost like flat head nails that you can use that has a flat top to it and a rubber ring under it to hold it in.
I enjoy getting and recieving oral, and after the first 2 yrs with it in, its not really noticable.

tongue piercings are very dangerous if you get it in the middle or a little past the middle of your tongue you wont bite it as much. But take very good care of it or it can get infected and that can be dangerous. Listerine is ver good to clean it. use the Listerine every time after you eat, smoke, or drink anything. i have mine and it did not hurt that bad you will drool alot while you are getting it done and a day or two after. If you take midol it will help with the swelling. and if it swells to where you can not close your mouth you need to get to a doctor.

I personally find all piercings to be a great turn-off. However, if you insist on any piercing, make sure that the post and nut of the piercing are of different series stainless steel (one should be 300 series and the other should be 400 series). If the two are of the same series, they will weld together and you will need a saw to take the piercing out. Do not allow any 200 series stainless as it rusts. The "series" is determined by how much chrome, nickel, and other elements are mixed with the iron.

It's not good. A person with tongue piercing has a hard time talking. Also I have seen people with infections. A friend of my daughters had her whole tongue green with yellow pus for the infection she had and she had to go to a specialist because the piece was surrounded with that pus and it was caked with scallie stuff. Any way food can get trapped and if you do not carry a tooth brush or mouth wash all the time your in trouble.

I've never personally had one. I was an educator for about two or three years on HIV prevention to teens and women and we followed statistics very closely. We were very concerned by the high rate of transmission of the HIV virus through tongue piercings. It is extremely risky if one plans on having oral sex.

love them! but they are really dangerous bc of infection. weird.. because all of my friends say that they are so gross and they wouldn't kiss someone with their tongue pierced.. obviously they aren't adventurous hahaha. but yes, when i go to college i am definitely going to make that happen.

Mixed feelings.
I hate the look, but if i was single, I would love to snog somebody with one, just to see what it was like.

i like them. i just got mine done a few months ago and like it except i always bite it when i eat and i have unfortunatelly chipped a few teeth, nothing serious though. so if you do get it done i suggest getting the plastic balls.
