Rather than spending $2000, I say only spend a couple of hundred bucks on a more comfortable seat and forward controls. That will increase the "cruisability" of your barely used Dyna.

The Harley's maintenance isn't a problem. It helps you get to know your bike. But if it isn't you then it isn't you. Sell your Harley out right and then go find your best deal on a new Honda. If you have a good wad of cash on hand you'll be able to get a better deal. As for resale value the metric cruisers are re-selling at very good prices for the seller, much better than the UJM's (Universal Japanese Motorcycles) of yesteryear. Just ride it forever and the #ell with resale value. Good Luck

You want to trade a Harley for a Honda? Whats wrong with you? OK Harley's made today do not need any more maintenance than any other bike so that's not a problem. If you want a Honda then sell the Harley. Don't trade it in! You will get much more $$$ selling it yourself. Check Kbb.com to get a value on your Harley. I'll bet it is way more than the Honda guys will give for a trade in.

I think the right answer has already been stated. First, let me commend you on not being hung up on the HD image.
Sell your HD yourself and buy the VTX.
I have a 2004 VTX 1300S. Its an awesome reliable machine.
It has 16K on it. Ive ridden from NJ to ME. Most recently did NJ to Myrtle beach.
I will tell you the resale on a VTX sux. There are dealers giving awsome deal on brand new 05 & 06 leftovers so look around. Also check out VTXOA.COM for info and used bikes for sale.

Well since you have a faithful wife and sound like a fairly well sorted person who prefers substance over image i'd say do it. Try selling the HD on your own for while and see if you get any buyers. If not I'd do the trade, You'll have an all around better, smoother, more comfortable, and more reliable. And you will rid yourself of that transmission CRUNCH-CLACK that has plagued them since the turn of the century.

Your wife gave you a barely used Harley and you want to trade it plus 2 grand for a Honda?
I have nothing against Hondas, had a few myself. Maintenance is maintenance, and must be done on any motorcycle.
Did you trade any other presents lately?

Well, you will definitely be tinkering with your HD more often than you'd like.
I would definitely trade up to a Honda. It's more reliable, has newer technology and you'll definitely be riding it more than tinkering with it. Worth the extra $2K in my opinion.
