It was repainted 19 years ago and is a dark green. I was thinking of painting it black but I heard that if you repaint classic cars it can make them less desirable. Your opinions?

( I heard that if you repaint classic cars it can make them less desirable.)

From your statement, I believe this car you bought will be a short-term ownership.
If you plan on flipping this car, then repaint it original color and make sure all the stainless, chrome and rubber are all rejuvenated.
That alone will keep up the value of your car.
Black is also an unforgiving color.
Unless the body is flawless, and you want to keep the car for long time, then paint it black.

The whole idea of having a "fun car" should be to enjoy it and do what you want to it.

If it's an investiment, things change.

Sure, you'll probably hurt the value of the car by repainting, but why not enjoy the car. It's you'rs you have it for a reason, you aren't ruining the car, you are taking a car that is beautiful to you and making it better.

Besides, it's not original paint anyhow.

Make your choice sir.

If the vehicle has been repainted in the past, the car's originality has already been affected,so a fresh paint job will not negatively affect the value of the vehicle, although I would certainly stay with the original paint color. Because changing the vehicle's color may indeed adversely affect the vehicle's value, and it is much more difficult to accomplish with good results, and its a lot of extra work and expense.

If it needs new paint then paint it. A good paint job will increase the value of any classic car as long as you leave it the original color.

Changing colors is generally a bad thing to the serious collector.

It is already repainted so it wont decrease the value if done right but I would go with original color.

Find the exact paint color on the body plaque under the hood. see if you can stand it. A color change might be a frame off restoration and lots more than just paint alone.
