could you believe that dave winfield was actually drafted right out of high school in st. paul, mn. by the baltimore orioles (40th round - number 876 ,) as a pitcher/outfielder in 1969. after college at minnesota, not only was he drafted by the padres, he was also drafted by the atlanta hawks-nba, utah stars-aba, and by what nfl team as a tight end?

He was a great athlete. I don't remember which NFL team. I was at Yankee Stadium a long time ago, and saw him hit a home run. I have never seen a ball hit that hard. He lined it into the left field seats. The ball had no arc on it.

he was tremendous and bad bump with the Yanks
