my gold gourami is chasing a chiclid i am babysitting, ive read the previous related Q and relise this is probably a teritorial trait but i am puzzled as to why the gourami is constantly (while chaseing the chilid) grabing him with his pelvic fins?

He's checking out the new guy with his pelvic fins, it's not a hostile move it's just one way he has of learning about the new tank mate. The situation won't last long, once the cichlid settles in, he won't take any gruff from the gourami and in fact will most likely really bully the gourami around a lot.

I have a gold and a blue in my cichlid tank and they constantly chase each other and the cichlids but never actually attack so I am letting them stay in there for now. I have had to switch the gold & the blue from different tanks because they do this with all types of fish and each other from what I have seen. I thought I had just got ahold of some psycho fish lol.. it must just be one of their traits.
