Everyone tells me I have a good "radio" voice. I was attending college classes toward a degree in broadcasting back in 96, but I had to drop out due to financial reasons. What do I need to do to get my foot in the door?

Dont bother with school, its a waste of time and money. Dont listen to people saying to start as an intern. Yet another time waster. Dont waste time putting demos together because no station is going to hire some fool off the street with no experience. Apply at the radio station for the promotions street crew. They hire just about anyone. Thats how I got myself in the door. Eventually made my way to the studio and a lot of hard work.

Put together a demo CD... drop it off at a local radio station, and bug the program director... the best approach is to let the PD know that you're interested in filling in for DJs when they take vacation time... it's win-win... the PD gets to observe how you work and have someone fill in, and you get your foot in the door. Once you get your foot in the door, be prepared to run with it. Knowing Prophet/NexGen and audio editing software is very important if you want to impress.

Start out as an intern, work in public relations, or sales. Contact a local radio station to find out if they are hiring.

Apply for everything and be prepared to take the crapiest job available. start at the bottom and then show them what you can do. Then when a better opening comes along try for it until you get it.
