Its called Yahoo Answers. I think their main goal is to get people to ANSWER questions. If there are fewer questions asked (due to peoples fear of losing too many points) it may force people to actually answer questions they typically would ignore.

I personally think it would be nice to get points for asking questions since without questions, there would be no answers. You need one in order to get the other.

There is a method to their madness. :)
If it weren't for the points being taken away, people would ask random useless questions just to earn points. By having the risk of losing points, people are more likely to ask serious questions (unless they want their points to run out). At the same token, when you pick a best answer, you get 10 points (but technically if you deduct the 5 from asking, you're really getting 5...err I think). Either way it's more beneficial to ask and to pick a best answer than to answer a question, which is only two points because you get more points. However, it is easier to earn points answering questions and you get easy two points for every question you answer. ( If they only did something for those people who put in obscene/useless answers!) Also, when you delete a question/answer, you also lose points. Overall, it's a game of give and take ...that and to get the question/answer thing moving. : )

You get 5 points taken away for asking a question, but you get 3 points for choosing a best answer for your question.

P.S. This really isn't a Books & Authours question...Why didn't you put it in the Yahoo! section?

You get points for picking the best answer to your question, and also if you get starred I think. If you got points for every question you asked can you imagine how many retarded questions would be asked?? I think its a way to try to control that more real questions are asked then ridiculous ones.

because its called Yahoo Answers. If you gained points then everyone would be asking pointless questions just to gain points. Not a lot of people's questions would be answered then.

No, you're not contributing, your taking from the community.

Taking is point subtractions.

Giving is point additions.
