I see someone suggested Freecycle. This is a good site, and so is Craigs List.
Also - go to yahoogroups and search for recycle, there are a lot of groups that are similar to freecycle - where you can find all kinds of things being given away for free.
another option is to post an ad in your local newspaper asking for a serger. I had a friend who posted a request for a piano to be delivered to her house. The newspaper person tried to talk her out of the ad - saying it was a waste of money because no one would give away a piano - let alone deliver it. Well, the day the ad run, she got what she wanted - a piano delivered to her.
Ask and it shall be given.

Not sure if it would be worth having one given as usual it is 'being got rid of' because it either is very difficult to thread, been abused or is not a proper overlocker that cuts as it sews. I have seen hundreds of different overlockers working (and used loads) most of which give a fantastic result once set up correctly and although a sewing machine with an Overlocking foot is quote 'just as good', it is definitely not as fast. 4 threads seam and neaten all fabrics in one quick run, 5 threads seam and neaten mainly woven fabrics and 3 threads are for neatening all edges but only for seaming fine jersey fabrics. A roll hem devise is also a great asset. I have 3 different overlockers but sorry I am not able to GIVE any of them away. Good luck though and hope the above helps if you do get offered one. RJ

i had two sergers and both turned out to be a huge mess, i would give them to you but they dont work , which is why i got rid of them . sergers are not a necessity when sewing, a normal sewing machine with a zig zag will do it.

People give away everything under the sun. I even saw a car once, really. I have given away dozens of good things, from furniture to craft items. Just register in your area, and watch the freebies flood in.

Go to freecycle.org

Put a post card up with your Want Ad in your local grocery store. Or check with a 2nd hand shop. Good luck!

Check out Freecycle or Craig's List. Also, let people know you are interested in getting one. They may have one they are not using.
