I received a rather expensive watch from a male client of mine I just started doing business with a few months back. (I'm a designer.) I have no doubt, it came with strings attached. To maintain a professional relationship with him, I told him it was far to expensive of a gift and that I did not accept personal gifts from clients. I told him it would be better if he returned the watch and perhaps donated the money he spent on it to charity. But I did tell him it was a very thoughtful thing to do, regardless. He seemed to understand and I did receive a note from him that he had donated some $$ to Habitat for Humanity in my name.

the other day someone went to Dnkin Dnuts and bought me a coffee. I paid her back because I didn't realize it was her treat. does that count? I accepted the item but by paying for it, I refused it's gift status.

Today.. My mom's friend gave me a gift to go to an amusement park and basically everything is free. But I refused. I felt kind of guilty for her to spend so much money one me for nothing.

About ten years ago when someone in my family gave me a fleece for Christmas. I'm not the kinda guy who enjoys receiving clothes as gifts.

I've never refused a gift though I've been known to give it away, like a few CD's that people THOUGHT I would like. But I appreciated the thought.

last month. my father was going to give me 4,000 USD for a trip to europe but i told him he could keep the money id rather work for it myself. i know that hes a very selfish man and he's money hungry and that giving me that money was killing him so his intentions werent as loving and desirable as i would like. i prefer to have nothing than to be given something under false pretense.
