I would like to set-up my receiver and assorted audio equipment in a tiny hallway closet. From there I could run speaker wires up and through the attic, placing speakers in the ceilings in various rooms. Is this recommended?

Make sure you have good breathing space for each componet. A lot of amps or other audio devices have fans built in. Make sure y dont crowd them or over stack them(heat rises) Give wires good space and keep them organized. You should be ok with the speakers and wires in the attic. dont plug in to one socket, spread out your juice...rock on

This shouldn't be a problem, however, you want to keep air circulating to keep the equipment cool and you've got wiring & circuit breakers that will handle the electrical load.

If you've got a monster system, you'll generate lots of heat if you "crank it up" and your amp my shut down from thermal overload, so get some ventilation into the closet somehow.

Good luck.

The only concern I would have is if you have a very high power or tube amplifier which generate a lot of heat, otherwise should be OK.

as long as their is enough ventilation to keep them from overheating. heat will shorten the life of the electronics.
