Why are there no social events for Single people over fourty, or fifty?

There are, plenty of them. However they tend to be specialized and smaller than many groups. There are groups by interests, careers, social, religious, political or ethnic persuasions - the list is unlimited. They can be found at places like craigs list, local newpaper classifieds and by a simple search. While it is true that many over 50s have settled into relationships, the high divorce rate is plunging lots of surprised folks back into a scene that they thought they had left behind.

There are, but because of the social stigma attached to being single at 40 or 50, they aren't advertised, hence nobody goes to them, and the end result is that 40 and 50 year olds stay single, thinking there are no single social events for them.

Pssst... You could always try just walking up to somebody you find attractive and saying hello? What's the worst that could happen?

There aren't?

So the singles groups I used to attend, were what? Hallucinations?

And the other 100 or more who attened? Did they have the very same hallucinations that I was having?

To tell the truth, there are:
1) church. Believe it or not (remember Ripley? No?) churches are often the best place to meet that someone special.
2) clubs -- book clubs, gyms, whatever
3) picnics put on by VFW, American Legion, DAV...whatever organizations there might be
4) classes in community colleges
5) online...

There are, but people of this age likely already have many freinds and connections that they stick with. They also are more inclined to be secure enough to want to give back to society, so many volunteer for social outlet.
