My husband has twins on BOTH sides of his family. When I went to my doctor, i was 5 weeks 5 days pregnant. But my uterus felt 7 weeks along. Does this mean anything? Or I am just getting worried for nothing.

Thanks

Your likelihood for twins increases when they skip a generation. So if that's the case with your husband (i.e. he was not a twin nor were any of his siblings) then your chances are pretty good.

They would be even greater, though, if twins ran in YOUR family (the maternal side).

Measuring 2 weeks bigger or smaller is common in pregnancy and it's usually due to your due date being a little off, or simply the way you are carrying the baby.

I always measure 2 weeks smaller than I'm supposed to but my babies are all normal weights.

All the best to you and baby!

Unless your husband has identical twins on both sides of the family, it is unlikely that you would have twins (some men have an enzyme that increases chances for identical twins). Twinning nearly always (though not 100% as many people believe) follows the maternal line if it is hereditary. If you have twins, it's either your age (over 35) or chance.

You may be just be getting worried. I have twins on both sides and my doc kept telling me that nothing can be for sure until the 20 week ultrasound. But I am sure if he hears 2 hearbeats at your 12 week appt you'll be jumping for joy!!

I'd wait for the ultrasound or the fetal heart beats. And brace yourself for two. I don't know what the chances are of twins.
