Supposedly the battle of Chalons was extremely massive claiming thousands of lives; but than again reports from these time periods are often wildly exaggerated. It was described as producing truely countless bodies. Some sources claim over 100,000 dead total for all sides of the battle.(Atilla himself supposedly had 300,000 men by himself; wildly exaggerated probably, but still a massive army.)
Another ancient canidate would be the battle of Cannae 79,000 Romans were defeated by a 50,000 man Carthaginian force losing around 48,000 men (Carthaginian troops took 8,000 prisoners after becoming sick of killing) Carthage lost 6,000 men. The gahstly total for the day was around 54,000 men.

the battle of antietam
it was the first major battle in the American Civil War to take place on Northern soil. It was the bloodiest single-day battle in American history, with almost 23,000 casualties.

It may not have seen the most killed in 1 day, but Gallipoli stands out as one of the bloodiest battles of all time. Check out this site:-

Antietam is the bloodiest day in world history for most casualties in one day.
Of course Napoleon lost 610,000 DEAD in Russia but that was an entire campaign.....but then they were just as dead.
