after having cancer. I hardly missed any work during treatments & kept up with my responsibilities but now they seem to be trying to make my life hell. The stress that I am enduring now is worse than when I was fighting cancer.

Your question isn't specific - I'm not sure what action your employer is taking to "make your life hell." In order to pursue legal action, you must have sustained a tangible losss of some sort.

For example, if you were on a Federally-mandated Family Medical Leave for your treatments, and your employer subsequently returned you to a position that was markedly lower in pay and/or status than the job you held when you went on leave, that would be a tangible loss. If they are now refusing to allow you to participate in group health benefit plans, that would be another example.

On the other hand, if your manager is requiring you to hit specific performance objectives (even demanding ones), to work additional hours, or other things that an employer may reasonably request, you may not like those things, but they are not illegal. Every job contains a certain element of stress - you need to decide whether the stress you are experiencing is related to an employment loss, or whether this is just not the right job for you.

Best of luck, and be well.

I'm assuming you're in the US - I don't know about other countries' laws on this.

You probably can't take legal action. There are specific reasons that make you able to file a discrimination claim, and health reasons and then being treated really rotten is not one of them. Legal bases for discrimination are things like gender, race, and religion, and a few others.

I'm very sorry for your troubles. You've been through a lot, through no fault of your own. What they're doing sounds really rotten, although probably legal. Lots of things are legal that aren't right.

If you can manage not to cry when doing it, how about looking them in the eye some day soon when they've done something really rotten and saying "why are you treating me so badly?" That might at least shame them into backing down.

Good luck. You got through the cancer treatments - you'll get through this too.

You can do something really mean but it has to be legal.
