tape? I don't remember.

The first CD I got was for my 12th birthday, my mom bought me a cd player/boom box and bought me two cds: Spice Girls and Hanson.

And sadly enough, I still own both of those CDs. Albeit, they are covered in dust and I haven't listened to them in ages.

When i was a kid my sister was old enough to move out of the house and she gave me all her records. Vinyl, that is. It was a lot of Cheech and Chong, George Carlin (imagine how that shaped my head as a child?) and sort of what would be considered 70's light rock oldies and some funky obscure rock and roll 45's.
This was when I was really young in the late 70's, you can imagine how much Joan Baez and Jim Croce was in there. Or maybe you can't.

The first record I ever got for myself was Michael Jackson's Off the Wall, on vinyl, and I still think it is one of the best albums ever made. I think every song made the charts, I'm not sure. I sure did kiss the album cover a few times. Michael was cute back then.

That was about in the sixth grade, 11 years old, or so.

My first cassette was purchased, used at the flea market, for a quarter, at about the same time. It was Heart, Dreamboat Annie.

First CD? I really don't remember. I think it came from a music club in the early 90's. Ya know, 12 CD's for a penny?
The last cd I bought was Half Japanese. The Greatest Hits.

Oh - I am much much older. I was a kid way before CD's and cassette tapes were around (even before 8-Tracks!). My first owned album - the real vinyl kind! - was called Donny Osmond-To You With Love. I absolutely adored Donny Osmond back in the day. That album was released in Jan. 1971 and I went out and bought it with my own money since I had gotten a record player for Christmas that year. I don't own that one anymore, but I do have some oldies in my collection of records.

Other than my Strawberry Shortcake and Sesame Street records (and my favourite LP: Santa Sends His Very Best), by first tape that I bought with my own money was Bossa Nova Hotel by Michael Sembello. I think I was about 11 at the time. For those of you unfamiliar with this singer, he sang "Maniac". Closely following the purchase of this tape, I bought the Eurythmics Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This) tape.

I'm not sure what my first one was, I had tons of them. My most memorable one was Metallica's Ride the Lightning album. I was 8 when I got it, I learned my first song on guitar off that tape, 'nothing else matters'... I miss having to rewind a tape to hear a song again. This press a button and its done crap is silly.

Boyz II Men cassette - Cooleyhighharmony
I don't remember my first CD, but the first Days of the New album was the only one I really enjoyed after hearing only one song and buying an album.
