There are very few churches that take polls on the education level of every member.

I would expect that within total membership of a church that degrees are on the rise. Churches have a social standing in our society, whether they are on to truth as it were or not. They are gathering places for the social masses. Educated people who can stomach the religious teachings in small doses whether they agree or not, place a value on that gathering in many cases. It helps to network in what you do and church is another networking place and who knows what you might glean from that participation for those who can still stomach it? Remember that education began with reading, and most reading was recording of what people found to be mystical and astounding, so much of early learning was in churches and the like, especially in the last few thousand years. A degree is another way life programmed us for existence!

If I had to guess, I would say that the percentage of degreed people in the US in churches would be at least 20%, possibly 30 at this point. Many churches try to help their higher donating parishoners pay for college for their kids too with small scholarships.

Guess it is kind of like the strength in numbers Birth Control of Catholics, strengthens your organization?

Churches want their religious organization to be able to continue to be validated, to be defended, by the "professionals"?

meMBers of a church ( Sorry, but doesn't sound like you've had much experience with college yourself. In reality, it will really depend on what denomination you are trying to specify. Jehovah Witness types look down upon higher education and expect an individual to devote his or herself to the church. They actually encourage dropping out of highschool. But in a normal Christian church I would suppose a pretty small amount would really hold a degree, though you yourself should never question that and pursue college. It's a great experience and you generally get paid more.

In my church more have a college degree than not. I know this because it is a small church. However in my church (and in most churches) people's educational background are not questioned.

I think that would depend upon which church you are talking about. You might want to give us some details.
