up & juiced up during games that he probably wouldn't have known if a mac truck hit him? I realize it's a physical game, not all are on roids but they know this going in, get paid the big bucks for it.

What are you talking about? Romo has admitted to using enhancements, a fancy word for roids dude!

Your question is misguided. You are talking about something completely different. The players who need disability benefits are from the 50s, 60s, and 70s. These players were UNDERPAID and USED. Most of these guys had regular jobs in the offseason.

The players from the 50s, 60s, and 70s are denied benefits that current players who retire will receive. And the NFL PROFITS from those same players who are denied benefits (Jerseys, merchandise, NFL films, video games, etc.) The game was also much more brutal back then. Today there are many rules to protect players; not to mention the trainers, medical professionals, coaches, nutritionists, and equipment that players today take advantage of. Steroids didn't arise until the late 70s, early 80s. And the majority of the players in the league today do not take steroids. The NFL is the only professional sports league that does a decent job of keeping steroids out.

The NFL needs to take care of the guys who sacraficed their minds and bodies to build the league into a billion dollar industry, and got paid pennies in the process.

The majority of the players in question are the older players from the 70s and a few before that were part of the game BEFORE the big salaries were the norm, BEFORE the medical care was what it is now, and when steroid and pain killer use was much more common and, to an extent, tolerated. These are the players, some big names, that literally gave up their long term health for the sake of the game, their teams, and the owners. I see nothing wrong with the NFL and the owners taking the responsibility for the health. Currently the NFL has only $126 million in retirement aid for ALL former NFL players. That is pocket change compared to what the league makes.

I'm with hamthugger on this one.
And what do you mean by taking responsibility?
The only one responsible for what one does is the one that did it.
No matter what the situation; no matter what or how hard the choice; there is always a way to not choose to do wrong.
IF Romo is using steroids, the NFL has a policy to handle the situation.
Given the state of the NFL these days; a choice between a hopped up Romo or any of the thug criminals disguised as football players; who would you choose?

They're only paid so much because we love the sport. They get paid based on demand, not on workload. And well... they are the best in the world at what they do.

They do have a responsibility. But the "overall" responsibility is on the individual player...They know they are looked up to by young kids...
