When it comes to your health, no question is stupid. Tampons are relatively safe when used as directed and not left in for extended periods of time. I have found that the tampons with plastic applicators make insertion easier, that's just my opinion!! Make an appointment to see your doctor if you are unable to ask questions over the phone or you feel more comfortable talking face to face. You can simply say to your doctor "I would like to ask some questions about my period" , "I have questions about using a tampon", or "What are the pros and cons to using tampons vs. napkins." Never, ever feel ashamed to ask about your body to your doctor. He or she probably has heard your question before.

TSS is a very serious condition and it can be caused by tampon over use. I recommend only using them during the day, take them out at night and use a pad when you go to bed. You are less likely to develop TSS this way.
As for asking your doctor, do it. She will more than likely tell you the same thing I just did, and no it's not a stupid question. It is a concern that should be addressed when just starting to use tampons. There may be risks to you that the doc. will want to discuss with you first.
Hope that this helps.

They are doctors there is no reason to be embarrassed that is what they are there for.. they have probably been asked these questions a million times.. If they didnt want to be asked these questions they wouldnt have become a doctor. Just ask them anyway you feel comfortable asking them and good luck.. Also its not likely you will get TSS unless you leave it in for a very long time.. way more then a few hours.. and you are more likely to get TSS when you use bigger tampons with a light flow.. so were the smallest size when it is light.. Tampons are way better than pads.. pads are very gross especially if you are in sports.. It could get messy...

I don't think it's worth going to a doctor for it. Oh, and about the TSS, there's about a 1 in 100,000 chance maybe, so I wouldn't worry.

It is not stupid to ask your doctor. You should however make sure you use plenty of lubrication the first few times you are using tampons. Good Luck.

It is never stupid to question your doctor about anything that could affect your health. Bring it up by saying "I have a question:" Then just ask her.

if u want, have ur parents go out of the room and talk privately, ive done that about something i was nervous to ask and it helped. ur doctor has heard just about everything, so dont worry, theyve heard it many times before. they wont laugh or think ur stupid because its their job to educate their patients

Honey, she's your doctor. She wants to help you. Don't hold back--she wants you to ask.
