Jamestown, Virginia was the first established English colony, and 13 years later the Pilgrims came to Deleware or something. And now Deleware is the 1st state and Virginia is like.. the 10th. Whats up with that?

BTW, the Pilgrims landed at Plymouth, Massachusetts, NOT Delaware. The ranking of the states has to do with the order in which they ratified the Constitution. Delaware was first.

Chow!!

the order of states isn't based on the original founding, but on when they joined the United States. For the original 13 colonies, this is set as the date they ratified the Constitution. Delaware ratified first, and is therefore the first state.

it has nothing to do with which one came first in founding it was it is the order that the states ratified the Constitution... and the convention was in Philadelphia and Delawares capital was closer so it got its approval in first...also some states like Virgina had problems with the Constitution and didn't ratify it till the Bill of Rights was added....

Delaware was the first to ratify, or approve, the Constitution. No territory can become a state until it does that, even today.

Virginia approved the Constitution after Delaware, and Delaware was first to ratify it so they get the title.
