Well, this is obvious but if you're a B student the best thing you could do would be to become an A student. Yale students are amongst the best in the world and I would imagine most had perfect or near-perfect high school grades.

If it's too late for that I would suggest doing incredibly well on the SAT or ACT. You're probably going to need a perfect score for Yale to look past your B average.

You could do something exceptional outside of academics, such as make a notable scientific discovery, compose an opera, or set a high school record in the long jump.

Yale does admit transfer students, so if all else fails you could go to another college, work your fanny off (that means getting all A's), and try applying after your sophomore year.

Look at the Yale website and you will see what the stats are for SATs and rank in class for Yale's recent classes. You have to figure that the chances of anyone getting into Yale who is not at or near the top of their HS class are pretty dim.

A few kids are admitted who have lower grades, but that is because they have some kind of amazing talent or some very, very unusual circumstance that makes them stand out. I read about one kid who is at another Ivy who was admitted with a B average - her whole school wrote a letter to the college and explained how her mom and dad were dead and this girl had raised her two brothers almost by herself with just a little help from a crippled grandmother. I personally know a kid who went to Brown who came to the USA as a 7th grade immigrant, not speaking one word of English. Five years later he graduated from one of the best high schools in the state with an 89 average and straight A's in his senior year.

Unless you have some amazing story like that, it is time for you to start looking at other schools. There are 125 first -tier schools in the US New Rankings. Many of them are really great schools.... Is one of them a better fit than Yale? You need to check it out.

Good luck.

I applaud your determination, but I think you may be taking it to the extreme and not keeping things in perspective.

- why yale? there are a million other good universities out there
- what do you want to study? Yale is a good uni, but may not be the best for your particular area
- where are you? Have you considered cost, accomodation, visas, etc if you are an international student?

I had the option of going to a better uni than the one I am now doing my Masters in, but thats because the one I choose had better units of study for my area (law).

Be practical.

Find a rich sugar daddy and start sleeping with him. Then convince him to build a new library on Yale's campus. You'll be guaranteed a spot!

Get your dad to become president of the United States, that seems to help average and bellow average students get in.
