Yes, they have special arrangements for that.

It's not impossible for them to navigate as many exits, routes, etc are in numerical format.

Not all illiterate people are stupid. I have a friend that is illiterate, in his mid 50's and he is one of the smartest men I've ever met. His intelligence just shows in other areas where many people lack.

You'll have to pass a written examination prior to taking your driver exam. If you can't read, how are you going to pass the exam? Besides, you should be able to read the road signs such as "slippery when wet" etc.

I think this depends on the state. I know that in some cases they will have someone read the questions to you. You must be able to determine the meaning of the signs though.

Sadly, yes. Most states have provisions for the illiterate to take the written test orally. If you are talking about a friend, I hope that you are also encouraging that person to learn to read.

Yes, it is considered a disability and they give you an adaptive version of the written test.

They can give you the tests differently, but you still have to be able to identify all the signs etc.

This is just an assumption, but I will have to go with an emphatic No on this one. If you can't read, how can you read all of the necessary street signs.

yes in the state I live in you can get special assistance taking the written test.

happens all the time with people who cannot read the English language...the solution is that they offer the test in their language....this really confuses me of course because our road signs are in English.....hmmmm
