This world is usually dictated by the rhetoric of men so when a man says something goes everybody goes with it. Of course they are usually harder on women than actually looking at themselves.
Examples: Men dictate the fashion industry and latest trends and men are in key political places in power worldwide.
When it comes to looks, no matter how bad a man looks they will never be criticized the way a bad looking woman of the same level will be judged.
ITS NOT OK but it's tolerated unfortunately.

I guess you don't know this because you aren't an overweight man, but they/we are judged unattractive quiet often.
Now, you may see lots of overweight men engaged in relationships with the opposite sex, but chances are they got into that relationship before they got overweight.
Go out some night as an overweight man and try to meet some women.
Further, overweight men don't care. They don't go home and cry and blame society for making them fat and unattractive. They usually blame the beer and pizza for that.

If more people lived for themself and not for what others think is in. they would not feel bad or feel they where being judged. Or maybe its easy for me to say this b/c i dont really see African American female as much as i see other races on tv and in mag(i wonder why is that).

I think it's because men were traditionally valued on their power and their achievements whereas women were valued on their appearance. I don't think much has changed over the years, and even women who are smart and capable tend to worry about not being beautiful enough. I don't think most men think a lot about their appearance - they're more focused on success, power, wealth, etc.

Patriarchal values and women being viewed as property. Women look for men with resources and males look for women who can have children. This is purely historical and these criteria are slowly changing. Children must be given the awareness so they can develop a healthy body image and sound self esteem.

It is a prejudicial sterotype that is seemingly within society. The heart and soul is what matters, but hate builds up walls that hides what is important in a person/relationship.

Who said it is "OK" for a man to be overweight and unatractive? I was overweight, and couldn't get a date until I shed the lbs.

well i think history could where the answer be, i think it is just because that men have been allowed for too long to make decisions on the behalf of women, or basically the "driver" all the time, i gues men have been allowed to make this "accepted" in society..............but it will be soon changing
